About Bland Family Farm

Organic Farmers in Illinois Get to Know Your Farmer Welcome to Bland Family Farm, a family owned and operated organic farm in Illinois. My wife Marcella and I started the farm in 2016 with one simple goal: to make quality, healthy products for our family and our local community. From produce, to eggs, to chicken, to beef, our mission was to grow our food as nature intended; naturally. We are proud to share our passion both for the farm and for sustainable agricultural practices with our four amazing kids Lincoln, Hadley, Morris, and Henry. We grew and raised our own food first because we wanted superior food and know where it came from. We wanted the highest quality, most nutrient dense food. This became a priority for our family and the passion for this translated into something we could offer for others. We started small with selling excess at the local farmer’s market in 2017 and just continued to grow from there. It feels very rewarding to hear our customer stories of our food helping with their aliments, like stomach or inflammation issues they have had but don’t get after eating our meat. The support kept coming and we learned how much the community loved and appreciated our food. We then expanded our operation, adding more laying hens and meat chickens. By 2018, we started partnerships with local grocery stores in the area, giving the community easier access to higher quality local food. We are excited to continue to serve and bring the highest quality and nutrient dense foods from our farm to your table. I hope you enjoy your time on our page, and if you're ever in Central Illinois, feel free to reach out for a farm tour. Our herd is a mixture of Angus, Dexter, and Beef Master Cattle How We Manage Our Cattle Our beef is raised as a true herbivore should be: It is 100% grassfed, and 100% grass finished on our lush, chemical free pastures. Most local farmers will raise their cattle on pasture, and then finish the cattle on an all grain (typically genetically modified grain) diet for 60-90 days. At no time do we offer our cattle any grain. Do not fall for a “grass fed” label if you are trying to procure truly 100% grassfed beef. Ask the farmer who is raising the cattle if they ever offer their animals grain. Rotational Grazing On our farm, we practice managed rotational grazing methods that enhance the natural growth of the grasses on our pastures, which creates a truly sustainable system that requires little additional input from us. During the winter months, the cattle only receive hay (no grain!) that is also raised on our farm. It takes 2-2.5 years to raise the cattle to a live weight of about 900lbs with these grass-fed methods, compared to the corn-fed approach that nets a 1300lb
