About Highland Orchards Farm Market

ENRICHING LIVES SINCE 1832 IN WILMINGTON, DELAWARE Join us as we craft a brighter, greener future through our sustainable farming initiatives. Everyone Deserves to Eat Great Tasting Produce without Chemicals We want you to know where your food comes from and how it’s grown. You can count on the fact that seven generations of farmers have continually improved growing techniques so that you can eat exceptional produce that is grown sustainably. We offer fresh and delicious produce, and you have the opportunity to join a community that values food, land, and the relationships built around sustainable agriculture. Get to know your farmer, learn about the growing process, and support a healthier future for our planet with Wilmington’s longest running Community Supported Agriculture program and oldest farm. A Farm-to-Table Experience That Delights and Inspires. Get ready to delight your senses and inspire your creativity with the unparalleled freshness and taste only farm-grown produce can offer. By supporting Highland Orchards, CSA members are also supporting: Our transparent approach to farming and usage of non-GMO seeds keeps you informed and confident about your choices. Learn from our deep-rooted experience and unwavering commitment to nurturing the land we all depend on. Share in our passion for crafting a greener, more sustainable future with eco-conscious methods. Where does your food come from? Great food and community mark the days at our farm. Growing up on the farm was a special treat, full of hard work, sweat, inspiration, determination, and love of family, friends and a simpler (and busy) way of life. Connecting with the earth and the magic of caring for crops as they grow is something we have come to eagerly anticipate each season. We want you to know what excellent produce is when it comes directly from our farm to your table. I am the 6th generation of my family to farm here at Highland Orchards in Delaware. We grew up here, learning from our grandparents and parents how to plant, weed, harvest, and store fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Many of our customers knew my grandparents and parents and are now bringing their grandchildren to the farm. We grow the way we do because we want you to be able to eat extraordinary food all year, every year. At Highland Orchards, our farming practices prioritize flavor, nutrition, and healthy soil. We baby our crops and nurture our land to produce high-quality harvests with fabulous flavor. We use crop rotation, minimal tillage, cover cropping, and composting. We add aged manure to the compost and employ beneficial insects and nematodes, fish emulsion and seaweed, as well as plant and mineral based sprays and powders. Every sustainable trick we can find is used to boost plant health and harvest flavor. We use several mulch options, such as leaves, wood chips, and straw to help suppress weeds and maintain soil health. Taking into account air flow, we carefully plan planting distances and pruning. Plant health is key for quality produce. Starting our own herbs, vegetables, and flowers for the cutting garden in our greenhouses ensures the highest quality produce. We are committed to avoiding sewage sludge, organophosphates, synthetic chemicals, or GMOs in our farming practices. Everyone deserves to eat great tasting food grown without chemicals! Welcome to our guide on finding fresh, local fruit near you! There’s nothing quite like… When it comes to buying flowers, we often think of big-name florists or online retailers…. Using everything in your Community Supported Agriculture is a top priority for most members. No… No, sorry. We don’t have any “pick your own” options. Nope! You are welcome to come shop in our barn without being a CSA member. While we do grow pumpkins and have them available when in-season, we do not have a pumpkin patch or a pick your own option. They are available within our barn for shopping. Stay Rooted with the Highland Orchards Newsletter
