Manwaring Cheese
For over half a century the Manwaring family has been providing fine dairy products for their friends and family. Basil Manwaring got an early start in the dairy industry, working the family dairy with his father Arthur Manwaring. Basil and his siblings would help deliver milk on a horse-pulled dairy wagon. Basil eventually found his way to a creamery in Blackfoot. While there he met a butter wrapper named Edna who became his wife. After a time there, he went to Utah State University where he managed the school dairy, making ice cream, cheese, and butter. After graduating from Utah State University, Basil began working for the Nelson-Ricks Creamery in Rexburg. Nelson-Ricks owned many small plants in the area and when the one in Ashton became available, Basil bought it and opened Manwaring Cheese. After being in Ashton for 16 years, Basil saw an advantage to building a new plant on the Yellowstone Highway in Rigby. The Rigby plant produced its first batch of cheese on February 3rd, 1971. Basil died on November 29, 1972. After Basil's death, his wife Edna and their children kept the plant operating through the late 1980s. In 2011 Basil's son, Blake, opened a new location in Rigby, Idaho. Manwaring Cheese relocated to their current location in Idaho Falls in 2019. 310 N Eastern Ave Idaho Falls, ID 83402
