Farm Share
New City Farm, a program of our non-profit, New City Neighbors, is dedicated to empowering young adults through hands-on learning and meaningful work. When you buy fresh, high-quality produce from our farm, you’re not just nourishing yourself — you’re also helping create jobs, leadership opportunities, and educational pathways for youth. Plus, your support strengthens local resource centers, ensuring that households in need have access to healthy food. Make a difference with every purchase! Sign up today for a 12-week Spring, Summer, or Fall share and enjoy a weekly assortment of fresh, affordable Good Food from April through December. When you join the New City family, you’re doing more than bringing delicious locally grown vegetables to your table. Every farm share helps us cultivate sustainable, community-centered farming. We grow all our food 100% naturally. Our produce feeds 250 families through our farm share program, and we accept Bridge Cards, allowing EBT customers to get 50% off and pay weekly. Every farm purchase also supports our youth employment and leadership development progam, along with our efforts to address food insecurity in the community. New City Farm grows on over four acres across three locations. Our home base, known as the ‘Farmhouse,’ is a one-acre urban farm at 1115 Leonard St. NE in Grand Rapids. We partner with Grand Valley State University’s sustainability department to cultivate an additional acre on their Allendale campus. We also lease two acres at Plainsong Farm & Ministry in Rockford, MI, where we house most of our extended-season growing infrastructure. Looking ahead, we are actively developing a new five-acre urban growing site at 2284 Ball Ave. NE to increase our growing capacity and training oppurtunities. Get involved with New City Farm and be part of our mission to grow food and community. High school students can apply for our youth employment program, gaining hands-on experience in sustainable farming and leadership development. We also offer farm apprenticeships for those interested in deepening their agricultural skills. Check out our Upcoming Eventspage for opputunites to volunteer or for farming workshops on topics such as composting, seed starting, and season extension. Whether you’re learning, volunteering, or working alongside us, you’ll help build a more just and sustainable local food system.
We believe that the youth of our community are not just the leaders of the future, but the leaders of today. We invest in our youth by creating job opportunities, providing relevant leadership training, and amplifying their voices as co-creators in our mission. We envision youth leading our community and New City Neighbors. We take a radically inclusive posture that welcomes everyone in our neighborhood to the table, embracing all aspects of diversity. We resist and dismantle systems of oppression that exist in our community. We engage our neighbors in the work of social and economic equity for all. We take a Christ-centered, faith-based approach in addressing the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual parts that make up an individual and our community. We challenge the systemic, cultural issues that affect the ability to thrive. We work toward wholeness in every regard. Our Strategy is Good Food Through urban farming we’re creating employment and empowering opportunities for youth, providing healthy food for our neighbors, and preparing a equitable table where all are welcome to gather and form relationships with a nourishing meal.
