Diversified Family Farm
North Farm is now Future Farm
Future Farm is a decentralized permaculture, forage, and forest craft farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Andrew and Reva Russell English started dreaming of farming together in 2016, and in 2017, thanks to a partnership with Seedleafand some generous friends who had two empty acres of cleared and plantable land, North Farm was born. Our first growing season, we sold to local restaurants and offered 10 farm shares. In 2020, we offered 25 shares and provided produce to Doodles,Sunrise Bakery,Fresh Stop Markets, the Woodhill International Market, and the Castlewood Market. We had plans for 2021 to be even bigger. But by the end of 2020, we were spent in ways we didn’t fully understand. Yes, the onset of the pandemic hit us hard—emotionally and spiritually. But something else was stirring too—a realization that things were never going to be the same again. In the ensuing years, we’ve tried to learn and imagine and open up. Thanks to mentors and friends like Jim Embry, Susana Lein, Robby Cosenza, and Kenya Abraham, we’ve changed a lot. Future Farm is an alchemical effort born out of affection, grief, fear, and hope. It is an endeavor to love and know the land and its inhabitants and be loved and known in return. We grow in 3 different spaces in Fayette County, KY. We forage all over the state.
