The Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market (NEFM)—one of the city’s first community-based farmers markets—is a nonprofit organization founded in 2000 as a gathering place to raise funds and community support for the Eastside Food Co-op (EFC). The market was created to help the co-op build relationships with local growers, meat producers, and neighborhood organizations. When EFC opened its storefront in 2003, NEFM became an independent organization, supported by neighborhood residents and local businesses. As the closest farmers market for many northern suburbs, NEFM has grown to offer a wide range of services and programming for the community. Each week, the market provides space for local nonprofit organizations, children’s activities, and live music. Four annual fundraising events have flourished over the years, making NEFM a place where guests come together to celebrate the summer and fall seasons—and the vibrant community spirit of the market. NEFM strives to reflect the neighborhood it serves and to make quality food and experiences accessible to people of all ages, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. With a strong focus on sustainability and zero-waste practices, NEFM is dedicated to bringing local and organic food choices to the community and remaining a vibrant part of Northeast Minneapolis. NEFM has been recognized byCity Pagesas one of the top ten farmers markets in the Twin Cities, named a top five market byMinnesota Monthly, and listed among the best farmers markets in America byThe Daily Meal.
