About Nutty Brown Farm

The Farm Market is in the Barn! We are thrilled to announce that our market operations have found a new home at the barn on the farm! Join us weekly on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM for a vibrant market experience. Explore fresh, seasonal bouquets from Ranch 101 and Nutty Brown Farm, savor delightful baked goods from Goodbake ATX, and browse beautifully crafted handmade candles from The Menagerie. You'll also find an array of unique handmade gifts, vintage treasures, collectibles, and furniture. This year, we are excited to host guest pop-ups featuring talented local artisans and farmers. Enjoy complimentary coffee and tea (donations appreciated) and relax in our scenic farm atmosphere. Take a moment to unwind, watch the birds, and soak in the peaceful surroundings. Stay tuned for updates! We’re a dog-friendly venue! Please keep your furry friends on a leash and help us maintain the farm by cleaning up after them. We can't wait to welcome you to the farm market each Saturday! I’m a fourth generation Texan, born in Austin. My ancestors came to Galveston from Germany on the ship “The Sara Ann” in 1845. My parents Ira and Beverly taught me to work hard, be honest, do your best and give back. I take these values to heart and put them into the work I do on the farm everyday. I love sharing what I’ve learned about growing flowers. I have people say to me, “I didn’t think you could grow these flowers in Texas.” It can take a little extra care but for me it’s so worth it. My friends and partners at the Saturday Market at Nutty Brown Farm. Mom of two teens, baker & pastry chef for 26 years. My focus is on producing unique yet simple sourdough loaves, scones and cookies. My first love has always been bread. I started my baking career in a small family owned bakery surrounded by mixers, huge buckets filled to the brim with dough and a multi deck bread oven, and it is there where I fell in love with the craft. I went through the baking and pastry arts program at the CIA in Napa Valley and have had 10 years of experience in restaurants as a pastry chef/baker in Seattle, upstate NY and most recently for Mazama Coffee in Dripping Springs. After 30 years as a marketing exec, now I grow flowers, raise chickens and spend my time on the farm. Ranch 101 Flowers are grown locally at our urban garden in Austin, Texas and at our flower farm in Elgin, Texas. In addition to local cut flowers you can also find Ranch 101 handmade goods and gifts for sale in the Nutty Brown Cabin. I'm proud to partner with Kim and Sarah to bring local wholesome goodness to the community every Saturday during the growing season. Come see us on Saturday's!  As we like to say on the farm... It's a beautiful way to start the weekend!

Our Story

Though we aren’t certified organic, we grow with strict organic practices using non-GMO seeds and only organic composts, soils, and fertilizers. We like to plant bird, bee, and butterfly friendly flowers to work with nature and keep our posies happy. It’s always nice to hear our customers say how much longer our blooms last and the beautiful smells that fill their homes. We harvest our blossoms the morning before our shop is open which gives you the freshest of flowers lasting up to two weeks with proper care. We always recommend trimming half an inch off of the stems and changing your flower’s water every other day. Buying local and following these steps can significantly extend the life of your bouquet. Bought back in 1941 by my husband Joel’s grandparents, Jack and Lee Ella. They cleared the 218 acre piece of land, built a house, added a couple of wells, and raised Polled Hereford cattle. Not an easy job by any sense of the word. Joel and I have taken a piece of this ranch and turned it into a 2 1/2 acre flower haven with larkspur in the spring, zinnias in the summer and sunflowers in the fall with many more in between. The farm is cradled between a narrow forested hillside and a tranquil creek. Every now and again after a rain, we find arrowheads peaking out from the ground, reminding us of the history and past residents of this extraordinary place we call home. Howdy, my name is Kim. I’m a fourth generation Texan, born in Austin. My ancestors came to Galveston from Germany on the ship “The Sara Ann” in 1845. My parents Ira and Beverly taught me to work hard, be honest, do your best and give back. I take these values to heart and put them into the work I do on the farm every day. I love sharing what I’ve learned from growing flowers. Sometimes people say to me, “I didn’t think you could grow these flowers in Texas.” It can take a little extra care but for me, it’s so worth it. My path to Nutty Brown Farm started when my daughters headed off to college. In the midst of this transition, I came across an article in Texas Gardening Magazine about a flower farm in Houston and was immediately hooked. I truly love the way nature takes a tiny seed, cracks it open with a little water and soil and gives you this beautiful colorful blossom. I felt a strong desire to open my own flower farm and explore what it could blossom into, and here we are. I couldn’t do this without the help of the love of my life, my husband Joel, a true jack of all trades who can fix anything, and who has supported me through this journey. Whether it’s fixing a problem with the tractor, patching a water leak, or helping me build the infrastructure of this farm, he is always there to help. Kim@nuttybrownfarm.com 13900 Nutty Brown Road
