But our market is more than just a culinary haven—it's a celebration of sustainability and community. Established in 2008, the Old Beach Farmers Market is fueled by the dedication of our volunteers, operating as an independent 501(c)6 organization. We are staunch supporters of local family farms, watermen, and Virginia wineries, fostering a thriving ecosystem of local commerce. Committed to environmental stewardship, the Old Beach Farmers Market proudly bears the certification of a Virginia Green market, advocating for eco-friendly practices and mindful consumption. So, whether you choose to amble over or pedal your way on a bike, be sure to bring along a reusable shopping bag and immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of flavors and aromas that define our market. Join us and embark on a journey to discover the pure, unadulterated taste of fresh, seasonal fare, where every purchase is a testament to the enduring bond between community and sustainability. And on Saturdays, don't miss out on the bustling atmosphere as we spill onto 19th Street, featuring a food truck and other vendors that add to the vibrant energy of our market. See you inThe Vibe Creative District Generous parking donations have been made by local businesses and city parking lots, including the grass lot behind Wave Riding Vehicles on 19th Street, the Runnymede lots on Cypress Avenue at 20th and 21st Streets, and the Virginia Beach Convention Center lot at 19th Street and Parks Avenue. Additionally, on-street parking is available on 18th Street west of Cypress Avenue. Motorists are cautioned against parking in unauthorized lots or blocking driveways, as this may lead to tickets and towing. This applies to the Wareing's Gym and Mary's lots on Cypress Avenue at 18th and 17th Streets.
The Old Beach Farmers Market (OBFM) is a fresh outdoor marketplace situated in the heart of the resort area, just six blocks from the ocean and one block from the Virginia Beach Convention Center, on 18th Street between Cypress Avenue and Mediterranean Avenue adjacent to ViBe Park . OBFM, a non-profit market, was conceived in February 2008 and its first market session took place on June 8th, 2008 with three vendors (Cromwell’s Produce, LG’s Happy Clam Stand and Croc’s 19th Street Bistro) who grew to 10 by the end of that season. The Market’s mission is to establish a Resort Area farmers market for residents and visitors, encourage locavores and educate others about local, fresh, and sustainable foods, promote local family farms, watermen and Virginia wineries, connect local sources to chefs, restaurateurs and the public and revive an old-fashioned kind of shopping in the historic Old Beach District. Old Beach Farmers Market is proof positive that a small group of volunteers can effect a big positive change in their neighborhood. As we approach our 10th Anniversary, we celebrate the vendors who saw the vision and the opportunity we were offering and the customers who have supported our growth. All participating vendors self-produce or offer regionally available agricultural, culinary, seafood and food-based products within a local Food shed of 150-mile radius of the Market location, and all of the State of Virginia. Each vendor must provide a full and honest disclosure concerning their product production as it pertains to growing and/or production methods, particularly in the case of products sold as ‘organic’ or from ‘sustainable sources’. Each vendor must adhere to high ethical standards in terms of product measuring and pricing.
